PIP Points Calculator 2026/27
Score yourself against the official DWP descriptors for all 12 activities. If this calculator gives you a higher score than the DWP did, that gap is the basis of your appeal.
How to use this: pick the statement that best matches how you are on most days — more than half of days in a year. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere; refreshing the page resets your answers.
Three rules to apply to every question
Highest descriptor only
If two descriptors apply to one activity, only the higher one counts. They never add together.
The reliability test
Safely, repeatedly, to an acceptable standard, in a reasonable time — or treat yourself as unable to do it.
The 50% rule
If it applies on more than half of days in a typical year, you score for it. Describe most days, not best days.
Common questions about scoring
How accurate is this PIP points calculator?
It uses the official DWP descriptors and the 2026/27 payment rates. It's a guide, not a guarantee. The actual decision is made by a DWP decision-maker based on your PIP2 form and an assessment report. Two people with the same condition can score differently if they describe the same difficulty in different language — which is why the wording matters as much as the descriptor list.
Does this use the 2026/27 descriptors?
The descriptors themselves are the same legal tests in force since 2013. What changed from 6 April 2026 was the payment rates, which this calculator reflects. The activities, descriptors and point thresholds are unchanged.
Will this calculator save my results?
No. Nothing you enter leaves your browser. Refresh the page and your answers reset. If you want to keep your score, take a screenshot of the results panel or print the page.
What's the difference between the standard and enhanced rate?
Standard applies if you score 8–11 points in a component. Enhanced applies at 12 or more. Daily Living standard pays £76.70 per week (£306.80 every 4 weeks); enhanced pays £114.60 per week (£458.40 every 4 weeks). Mobility standard is £30.30 per week; enhanced is £80.00 per week.
Can I add daily living and mobility points together?
No. The two components are scored separately. A high mobility score does not boost daily living and vice versa. You can receive one component, both, or neither — depending on which thresholds you meet for each.
I scored 8 points but only 2 from each of four activities. Does the 4-point rule block me?
No — you qualify. The 4-point rule never became law. It was a proposal that would have required 4 points in a single daily living activity, but the PIP clauses were removed from the Bill on 1 July 2025. Points still add up across activities: 8 points in a component gives the standard rate and 12 gives the enhanced rate, however they're spread. Any future change would follow the independent Timms Review, due to report in autumn 2026, and would need new legislation.
Does this calculator work for Adult Disability Payment in Scotland?
The activities, descriptors and rates are identical, so the points calculation works the same way. ADP uses the same April 2026 uprating (3.8%) as PIP. The appeal process differs though — Scottish appeals are run by Social Security Scotland, not the DWP.
I'm a carer and the person I help can't use this themselves. Can I score for them?
Yes — answer on their behalf, picking the descriptor that best matches their condition on most days. If you're going on to challenge their decision, your knowledge of their day-to-day difficulties is exactly the kind of detail an appeal needs.
